PBIS

Practicing PRIDE Every Day

PBIS at Big Lake Middle School

At BLMS we practice PRIDE every day:

  • Positive
  • Respect
  • Initiative
  • Determination
  • Etiquette

This is part of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. PBIS works to positively reinforce the behaviors and expectations that we want Big Lake students to have for school and for life. They are aligned with our Hornet Way and taught, retaught and reinforced every day.

How Do We Teach & Reinforce PRIDE?

Blue/Gold Teams

Every student and staff are assigned to either a BLUE or GOLD team and every trimester we tally the points of who shows the most PRIDE. Then, at the end of the year, our rock out front is painted to match the victorious team!

Right now, GOLD team is our reigning champion but we will see what this year brings!

Hornet Bucks

Students earn Hornet Bucks (paper bucks printed on green paper) by showing PRIDE in classrooms, the hallways and every space at the middle school. These bucks provide positive feedback and allow the students to save to be entered into drawings or purchase from our Stinger Store!

Students can purchase Hornet Budge (skip the lunch line), school supplies, water bottles, shirts and so much more!

Reviewing Expectations in Fun Ways!

We take PRIDE seriously at the middle school and at least once each trimester we teach and review these expectations by grade level and in FUN ways!

This happens in assemblies with challenges and doing a Stinger Scavenger Hunt as an advisory!
